Perfect world game
NEW YORK — Assuming the voting results for the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani and the Yankees’ Aaron Judge go as we expect them to go (hint: they will), this is only the seventh World Series to feature that season’s two MVPs.< toto members /p>
• Freeman joined Jackson, for the A’s and Yankees, as the only players to homer in consecutive World Series games for multiple teams. The only other players with multiple World Series homers for multiple teams are Corey Seager (LAD, TEX), Dave Henderson (BOS, OAK), Lenny Dykstra (PHI, NYM) and Reggie Smith (BOS, LAD).
The Yankees slugger and presumptive MVP entered Game 2 hitting 6-for-36 this postseason with 16 strikeouts. (That’s a batting average of .167.) His performance on Saturday did not help. Judge went 0-for-4. He struck out swinging three times and flew out to right field.
When the next world cup game
The 2026 World Cup schedule, or at least its foundational “shell,” has arrived. FIFA revealed key details, locations and dates on Sunday. The 16 North American cities and stadiums selected to host the tournament can now ramp up toward an unparalleled spectacle.
The top two teams from each group then move into the single-elimination knockout stage, which is a bracket made up of the round of 32, the round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the World Cup Final.
At the 2022 World Cup, most teams played every fourth day, on three days’ rest. In the Round of 16, Argentina and Australia actually played on two days’ rest. At the 2026 World Cup, each team should have at least four days between its first and second game and either three or four between its second and third.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America promises to be an extraordinary spectacle, as 48 nations vie for glory. The tournament kicks off with an unprecedented number of groups, a new format with twelve groups (A to L) containing four countries each in the thrilling group stage.

Who wins the first game of the world series
The National and American Leagues operated under essentially identical rules until 1973, when the American League adopted the designated hitter (DH) rule, allowing its teams to use another hitter to bat in place of the (usually) weak-hitting pitcher. The National League did not adopt the DH rule. This presented a problem for the World Series, whose two contestants would now be playing their regular-season games under different rules. From 1973 to 1975, the World Series did not include a DH.
With the new rules in place and the National Commission in control, McGraw’s Giants made it to the 1905 Series and beat the Philadelphia Athletics four games to one. Since then the Series has been held every year except 1994, when it was canceled due to a players’ strike. The name of the event, initially known as the World’s Championship Series, was gradually shortened in common usage to “World’s Series” and, by the 1930s, to “World Series”.
But as the Series shifts to the Bronx for Game 3 on Monday night at Yankee Stadium, with the Dodgers up 2-0 in the best-of-seven, the big stars are faced with big questions — about Ohtani’s availability and Judge’s invisibility.
Even though he’s in the lineup, it remains to be seen if Ohtani is at the full extent of his capabilities. But either way, the Dodgers are in a great position in this Series. Both games at Dodger Stadium came down to a bases-loaded situation, and they both ended with an L.A. victory. Now, the Dodgers are just two wins away from their second World Series title in the last five years and their first in a full season since 1988.
“We played that team really well for the whole entire game,” Yankees left fielder Alex Verdugo said. “At the end of the day, we’re the two best teams out here, so we’re going to come here with our heads held up high, with confidence, and go out here and compete again.”
Meanwhile, to deal with the fallout from the scandal baseball owners had agreed to reform the discredited National Commission. However, when they offered esteemed federal judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis a role on the reformed Commission, he quickly made clear he would only accept an appointment as the sole Commissioner of Baseball with virtually unchecked authority over the game. The owners agreed. Immediately after and notwithstanding the acquittals, Landis banned all of the players involved (including Weaver) for life. The White Sox would not win a World Series again until 2005.
